Welcome

Thanks for your interest in joining Croydon Council to help with our ambitious programme of digital transformation. It's an amazingly exciting time - for the council, town and whole borough - and these 2 important roles are an opportunity for you to be part of something truly transformational.

Croydon is undergoing massive change, with a £5.25bn regeneration programme turning it into a vibrant, modern city. It's already an incredible place to live, work, visit and do business. We're lucky to have a staggering array of retail, leisure and restaurant options (including Boxpark), a strong and growing economy with a thriving tech sector at its heart (including Sussex Innovation and the TMRW hub), an arts and cultural scene (including RISE gallery, Croydon FM and our recent accolade as the music capital of the UK), a friendly community vibe, unparalleled diversity and the most green space of any London borough. And we're big: more than 360,000 residents and 13,000 businesses call Croydon their home, making us the 2nd largest borough in London.

The London Borough of Croydon is a hugely ambitious council. We want the absolute best for our residents and businesses, and we're fiercely proud of our brilliant places and people. We are London's growth borough and we work hard to give everyone equal opportunity to benefit.

As Croydon's newly appointed Chief Digital Officer, one of my top priorities is to transform the council's digital services for residents and businesses. My vision, shared by the Cabinet and executive leadership team, is for best-in-class, user-centric services that will transform the relationship between the council and its users and support the council's ambitions. The Senior Delivery Manager is the first new hire since my appointment and will lead the existing digital services team and products while taking stock of the current state of our services overall and helping me to plan, and then deliver, revolutionary changes over the next few years.

It's of vital importance, not only for service transformation but for all our other ambitions as a Council, that we have a solid foundation of great, flexible IT - from the day-to-day kit that all our staff rely on to communicate, through to the mission critical software and systems that enable each service area to deliver effective frontline services. We've done some exemplary work on this already, and as the incoming Head of ICT you'll be inheriting a strong and accomplished team that is well on the way to transforming both the technology stack and their own skills and ways of working. You will make sure the talented IT teams continue to operate safe, reliable information technology that ‘just works', and that we have the ability to improve and change it rapidly to support the evolving needs of the business and our users.

I wish you the very best of luck and I look forward to receiving your application.

Neil Williams
