About us

As one of the largest employers in the borough our workforce of just under 3,000 staff provide a wide mix of services to residents, businesses and visitors to the borough, including; social, environmental, cultural, sports, housing, planning and benefits services. Our new headquarters has the customer at the heart of what we do, bringing 75 services together under one roof, including; the Council, Metropolitan Police, NHS and Job Centre Plus.

Just 15 minutes from both central London and Gatwick Airport, the London Borough of Croydon is the meeting place of town and country. As the largest borough by population, with over 360,000 residents, we are a thriving technology community with over 1,500 digital businesses. We have excellent transport links, a large catchment area, diverse community and affordable office space, just some of the reasons why Croydon is attracting more and more growing businesses. We are thrilled to host companies including Connected Space - a leader in co-creation of innovative technologies; Dotmailer - Europe’s largest email marketing company; Natterbox - UK’s growing cloud telephony platform and the award winning ICUK - a reseller and wholesale of communication services.

We actively support our small and medium businesses, recognising them as the heart of the economy and encourage innovation. In fact, we have recently supported the opening of a new state of the art technology hub - TMRW - through £2m worth of investment, including a contribution from the Mayor of London’s Regeneration Fund and a rent and rate free period from Croydon Council.  The space provides flexible and affordable office space, whilst also delivering training and advice on investment, and bringing the community together through key events such as the recent 1st ever South by South Technology Jobs fair.

Our digital journey so far has not only encompassed the development of a tech ecosystem, but how we as a Council utilise technology to make the outstanding services that we deliver even more efficient. Not only have we seen an increase in customer satisfaction but we’ve also raised engagement levels.

Digital understanding and education is also key to our success; the ‘Our Community’ fund is aimed at promoting digital and financial inclusion whilst also developing accessible advice and information. We have also partnered with Doteveryone to bring 3rd parties and the community together to create self-sustaining solutions that have changed people’s lives through digital skills and access.

We are incredibly proud of the recognition that our work has received, recently winning the Digital Council of the Year 2017. However, we know there is much ground to still cover. Our journey is just beginning...
