The role

This is an opportunity with far reaching impact. Our Empowering University strategy has a key focus on digital transformation where you will act as the university’s lead technical expert, ensuring a comprehensive technology modernisation programme to support the objectives of the Digital Transformation strategy. You will work as part of the Chief Transformation Officer’s team and with strategic level stakeholders to translate intent into change initiatives, programmes, projects, facilitating the design of implementation plans that are credible in terms of resource requirements, timescales and outcomes.

 

In your new role as Director of Technology Transformation, you will report in to the Chief Transformation Officer and advise University Leadership Board on the strategic direction and development of ITMS services to support the University’s Digital Transformation strategy and contribute to the corporate leadership of the university. You will enable DMU to develop robust people capability frameworks and resourcing models for digital, data and technology to meet current and future demands informed by your strategic technology insight and plans. In addition to this you will be the lead advocate for the existing and future delivery of technology, ensuring appropriate architectures, systems and security are maintained.

 

To ensure DMU maintains and develops a reliable technology infrastructure which supports all areas of university activity and enables business transformation, you will be responsible in establishing valued relationships with our external partners and suppliers. You will have the overall responsibility in ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery plans are in place for all IT systems and ensure we continue finding new ways of working by developing the understanding of technology capabilities that are available outside of DMU.

 

The person

To be successful as our new Director of Technology of Transformation you will be required to demonstrate success in providing technology leadership to enable delivery to meet diverse, complex, evolving, secure and highly available end user needs. You will have experience in transitioning organisations away from established and embedded legacy technologies to user orientated, lifecycle-based cloud enabled technologies and systems.

 

You will be adept at delivering change in a sustainable, affordable way and at growing the skills of your team as they transition to a new mode of operation, while also ensuring the highest standards are maintained. Clearly evidencing your own technical credentials and leadership across the digital arena which includes ERP, cloud computer, infrastructure services, end user computing, DevOps, data, lifecycle management, continuous improvement, cyber security, solution engineering and integration.

You will be required to demonstrate your market awareness which includes modern approaches to procuring services and managing relationships with suppliers whilst demonstrating your experience of managing budgets. You must be highly analytical and have an underrating of technical understanding of hybrid, multi-cloud architectures.

 

The Team

As Director of Technology Transformation to will lead our Information Technology and Media Services (ITMS) which consists of 170 employees. They are an active department in delivering information and communication technology services to enhance the experience of students and staff in learning, teaching, research and business operations. Services include a cross-campus communications infrastructure, desktop equipment for students in learning areas and for staff in work areas, email, central business systems, audio-visual equipment, virtual and managed learning environments and file storage space.
