Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) is an exciting and newly established organisation that will achieve better health and well-being for millions of people, by providing the critical digital, data and technology services needed by health and care professionals and the people of Wales. The events of 2020 have placed even greater emphasis on the role of DHCW to support the delivery of digital transformation and, put simply, the need for our work has never been more critical.

With ambitious goals and an award winning, inspirational CEO, this is an amazing time to be joining DHCW. You will play a vital role in helping to determine and lead the future direction for digital services across NHS Wales.

Engaging with stakeholders across the Welsh Public Sector will be an important aspect to the role, implementing common standards and influencing the development of the Welsh Government Digital Policy and Strategy.  You will lead, influence, and collaborate effectively across the Welsh health economy, partnering with digital leads to create a common view of how best to offer digital services to their staff, patients and service users.

The Role:

The Executive Director of Digital Strategy will be responsible for developing, defining, and implementing the digital strategy for DHCW in response to NHS Wales strategy and standards as set by Welsh Government and NHS Wales. You will drive and manage the implementation of change within the organisation and with partners locally, nationally and on an international scale. As an Executive member of the Board, the Executive Director of Digital Strategy will hold corporate responsibility jointly with other Board members for setting the strategic direction, corporate policy making, development and delivery of DHCW strategic business plans and objectives, as well as corporate governance, risk management, and quality management.

The Executive Director of Digital Strategy will proactively identify opportunities and support innovation through new and emerging technologies and ensure appropriate strategies and plans to deliver are aligned to the organisation’s longer term strategic ambitions, and the delivery of the Integrated medium-term Plan.

As an experienced and established digital leader, you will:

  • Develop and drive through the implementation of DHCW’s digital strategy across the organisation.
  • Drive digital change across Wales and ensure the integration of national digital systems into local delivery.
  • Be seen as a key player on the national stage, influencing future national digital strategies and plans.
  • Ensure outstanding levels of performance delivery through your inspirational leadership, vision and strategic direction.
  • Be the trusted digital strategic partner across health and care in Wales by ensuring a joined-up approach across local and national partner bodies
  • Develop a ‘best in class’ and agile planning culture and processes, that is responsive to changing circumstances and expectations for the local populations.
  • Support the CEO to embed  an organisational and management culture that encourages innovation and values and empowers staff.
  • Act as an ambassador for DHCW, building the reputation of the digital platforms, systems and services it develops and manages.
  • Participate and present professionally in Board sessions supporting the broader DHCW  Board Members and agenda items.

This is a thrilling opportunity to be part of a new organisation directing the digital agenda across Wales, making a substantial difference to the health economy of Wales, and improving lives of citizens. As the successful candidate, you will be an ambassador of our organisational values:

  • We act with integrity to build trust
  • We respect and treat everyone the way we wish to be treated
  • We care about the people we support and those we work with
  • We are proud of our achievements and being part of NHS Wales
  • We learn from our colleagues through the sharing of knowledge and experience to continually improve our service
  • We take personal responsibility for what we do, being honest with ourselves and others.
